Beryl Linforth
Beryl joined Wythall in 1972 in the first of our musicals Free as air playing Sue. Beryl then went on to play Maisie in The Boy Friend. At the age of twelve, Beryl played baby bear in ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ in Bulwell, at Nottingham – professionally. She has also played a donkey with Val Archer – both taking it in turns to play the front and back!
During the 1970’s Beryl appeared with Alcester Operatic Society in ‘Finian’s Rainbow’ and also helped with choreography for the chorus. She also took a principle part in ‘Free as Air’.
Beryl has played numerous roles in such production as ‘Breath of Spring’ and ‘The Farndale Murder Mystery’. Her finest performance was as the troubled Tanya in ‘Bitter Sanctuary’. She was part of the team that won Redditch Palace Theatre’s ‘One Act Play Festival’ with a production of ‘Edward’ Beryl (played the part of Sylvia).
Beryl’s name appears against many, many WTC productions because her dedication towards the company means that she is always involved somewhere… prompt, dresser, props and so on. She has also been our chairperson twice – the first time when the Company celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1983.
Her role in ‘Portrait of Murder’ in 1982 recieved this review:
“Beryl Linforth gave one of her best performances as the unfaithful husband’s lovesick current mistress.”
The company appreciate all the effort that Beryl gives us and we all know that a number of productions would have never have “got off the ground” if it wasn’t for Beryl. She is a very much respected and valued member to WTC.
Trained as a dancer, she made her first stage debut when very young, as a doll of Belinda and promptly lost her stuffing! We hope that Beryl does not lose her stuffing during a WTC play!
Beryl gave a wonderful performance as the disguntled Doris in the 2006 production of ‘Cemetery Club’. Beryl’s recent performances for Wythall included the confused Dora Bunner in our fantastic production of ‘A Murder is Announced’ (November 2007).
Beryl was the Chairperson of the society (1989 to 1991) and provided support for all members through this role. Beryl is now the current Chairperson of the company.
