Pack of Lies Convincing
Wythall Theare Group became the latest amatuer dramatic company to stage Hugh Whitmore's popular 'Pack of Lies' this week. The play set in the 1960s surburbia, follows the true events leading up to the famous Kroger spy trial.
The group provided a commendable production with both Val Archer and Mike Beamish giving strong performances in the leading roles.
In casting the directors decided to split the role of Julie Jackson in the production and have two girls playing the part on alternate evenings.
Jane Ford, who took the role on Wednesday, at times seemed over eager to impress and needed to relax more. Angela Smith as Helen Kroger managed to produce an authentic accent and gave a lively portrayal.
Ted Rodgers who played her husband Peter, found more difficulty in mastering the yankee drawl and ended up trying to speak too fast which marred his performance. The intelligence officer Stewart was well cast with Jack parramore visually fitting the part exactly.
There were a few minor hiccups with timing of lines but on the whole the group provided an enjoyable evening. The play runs until saturday at Woodrush High School Wythall.
