Anthony Pullen
I joined the Wythall Theatre Company in 1986 when it was known as the Group rather than the Company. I had just left school and got involved with the company much to the ribbing of my school friends, who at the time much preferred a pint to Pinter!.
I never really had the genes to be an actor, so got heavily involved in the backstage work for productions instead. Mainly working in the sound department, I became a bit of a wizzkid armed with a tape machine and a bundle off BBC sound effects records.
Countless thunder claps and “go ons” from various company members later, I finally got persuaded to play a pirate in an Old Time Musical production at the Palace Theatre in Redditch. If ever I was to get my ’15 minutes of fame’ – I think that that may have been it !!
I still try to do what I can every now and then with the WTC although I haven’t physically been in the sound room of a theatre since about 1993 – but in my dreams, thats another story…
